Applications
Visit our Apply page and complete the online registration form. You'll need to provide your personal details, proof of current university enrolment, and select your preferred residence. The process takes less than ten minutes. Once submitted, our team will review your application and respond within 5–7 working days.
You will need: a certified copy of your South African ID or passport; proof of current student enrolment (acceptance letter or registration document from your institution); and proof of funding — this could be a bursary award letter, employer sponsorship letter, or bank statements showing financial support. Clear, legible scans are accepted.
You may indicate a preferred alternative residence on the application form. Please note: starting a new application automatically cancels any other pending application invites you have received, so review your options carefully before submitting.
Once we have received all required documents, you will typically receive a decision within 5–7 working days. Popular residences fill up quickly, especially at the start of the academic year — we strongly recommend applying as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
Bursary & Funding
No. Hilret Trust accommodation is not accredited for NSFAS funding. Our residences are open to self-payers and students or professionals who hold a private bursary or employer sponsorship. If you are funded exclusively through NSFAS, please contact us to discuss your options.
We accept direct bank transfers (EFT), and bursary payments made on behalf of residents by employers or institutions. Monthly rent is due on the 1st of each month. Please contact us at info@hilrettrust.co.za for banking details and payment arrangements.
Yes. If your bursary provider pays accommodation costs directly to third parties, we can issue an official invoice and proof of residence for your sponsor. Get in touch with our team early so the necessary paperwork is in place before your move-in date.
Documentation
We accept a current Proof of Registration (POR) issued by your institution, or an official acceptance letter for new students who have not yet registered. Documents must reflect the current academic year. Certified copies are preferred; clear scans are also accepted.
Accommodation at Hilret Trust is conditional on active student enrolment. If your registration status changes — for example, if you defer, withdraw, or are excluded — you are required to notify us in writing within five business days. Failure to do so may affect your lease standing and deposit refund eligibility.
Amenities
Yes, high-speed fibre Wi-Fi is included in your monthly rate at all Hilret Trust residences. A fair-use policy applies — details are set out in your lease agreement. If you experience connectivity issues, report them to your on-site residence manager who will escalate to our network provider.
Most Hilret Trust residences offer secure, covered parking for an additional monthly fee, separate from your room rate. Bays are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Contact the specific residence you are applying to — or email info@hilrettrust.co.za — to confirm parking availability and current pricing.
Our housekeeping team cleans all shared areas — kitchens, bathrooms, lounges, and corridors — on a regular schedule. Individual room cleaning frequency varies by residence and room type. Please refer to your specific property's house rules document for the exact schedule that applies to your room.
Select Hilret Trust residences operate a scheduled shuttle service to and from the nearest campus or public transport hub. Shuttle availability, routes, and timetables are property-specific. Check the individual residence listing or ask the residence manager during your application process.
House Rules
Yes, visitors are permitted during designated visiting hours, which vary by residence. All visitors must sign in at the security desk and are the resident's responsibility at all times. Overnight guests must be pre-approved by residence management. Unregistered overnight stays are not permitted and may result in disciplinary action.
Standard quiet hours are 22:00 to 07:00 Monday to Friday, and 23:00 to 08:00 on weekends and public holidays. Residents are expected to keep noise to a minimum in common areas and rooms throughout the day, not only during quiet hours. Persistent disturbances may result in a formal warning or, in serious cases, eviction.
No. Pets of any kind are not permitted at any Hilret Trust residence. This policy is in place to protect other residents who may have allergies or phobias, and to maintain the hygiene standards of shared spaces. Service animals are the only exception and must be approved in writing by residence management prior to move-in.
General Information
Move-in dates are confirmed once your application is approved, your deposit has been received, and all required documents are on file. We will send your move-in schedule by email. Early or late arrivals must be arranged directly with your residence manager at least 48 hours in advance.
Cancellation terms are outlined in your lease agreement. Generally, deposits are non-refundable if you cancel fewer than 30 days before your confirmed move-in date. If you need to cancel, contact us at info@hilrettrust.co.za as soon as possible — the sooner we know, the more flexibility we may be able to offer.
All non-urgent maintenance requests should be logged with your on-site residence manager in person or via the email address provided in your welcome pack. For urgent issues — no running water, a power outage, a security concern, or a health risk — use the 24/7 emergency contact number listed in your lease agreement. Do not wait until office hours for anything that poses an immediate safety risk.
The deposit amount is equal to one month's rent and is due before or at move-in. Deposits are held in a separate account and refunded within 30 days of your move-out date, provided your room is in the same condition as when you arrived and your account is fully settled. Deductions may be made for damages beyond fair wear and tear.
